To the conservatives [13 Feb 2008|10:47am]
[ mood | optimistic ]

Why is it when a white child is attacked/raped/hurt/institutionalised they may put forth "valid" claims for compensation which result in the pay out large sums of money years later.  When it is a black child who tries the same thing claims are dismissed and it is considered to be "just another compo claim by people who get it all"
Why is it that (some) white farmers get flood assistance, drought assisstance, fencing assisstace and still complain about the "Abo land grab"
Why do we forget that blackmen fought in our armies and yet were denied service payment,  land to settle on and (ofcourse) the ability to go to RSL Clubs like the rest of thier mates.
Do we not realise in a country built on payment for hard work that Indigenous workers were not paid in money so that saving for the future was not possible for them (that state governments in some cases still have that money)
How can we complain about children not attending school when there are 400 kids and only 100 spots at the school and understaffed to boot.
Why must people move from thier traditional country because we can not be bothered with a particular community, we all know that bring people to the Cities works real well

What have you been reading to make you think that being aboriginal makes you a murder, a rapist, a victim, lazy, ungrateful or just stupid?
Listen to what these people are saying, the events that happened to them

EDIT: And people can change.  My little brother was so excited and happy about the apology while I was talking to him on the phone it shows that he has come a long way.  He was also the one who brought up the subject too

Big Thanks to Friends [13 Feb 2006|09:02am]
[ mood | peaceful ]

Thank you to all my wonderful friends who came and playtested the first of the Conquest Games. It was fantastic to get you all together and run the scenario. The feedback was excellant and will be put to good use. I will let people know when the second one will be available for testing GMs ConOrgs and people who will not be at the Con get first pick as usual. Even though we missed a character it was good to see that most of them worked as intended even the difficult ones

Not my normal discussion [08 Feb 2006|02:01pm]
Excert Taken from On Line opinion www.onlineopinion.com.au from 4 years ago

"Commercial TV home improvement programs often demonstrate how to get a decorative Aboriginal look into viewers' homes without paying for it. A recent program screened a non-Indigenous studio craftsman painting an Aboriginal-style canvas in a range of ochres, sienna and rouge pigments, to go with the made over household's new décor.

After re-covering a sofa, a female presenter joined the TV artist to help fill in the blank white space with as many Aboriginal-style dots as they could fit into the show's airtime. The studio-rendered painting's story line had nothing to do with native Australian culture but for suburban wannabes these do-it-yourself Indigenous art solutions fit tight family budgets neatly. Is television's democratisation of access to Aboriginal imagery a sign of our society's increased cultural tolerance, or does it merely tell us how cheap some of us are when it comes to valuing authenticity in works of art?"

Curious to see some discussion if people are interested...

In other news I won my first big tender last week - $35000 worth of work
and finally the geeky stuff - still looking to fill 5 spots for a playtest on Sunday 12.30 anyone interested?

[30 Dec 2005|10:46am]
I know that this is possibly the wrong time of year but does anyone have a computer that could be donated (or sold) to a Commitee of Management that I am helping out? Technically my funding should not be used for that sort of thing but it does need to be obtained. I think the big thing is that it has a CD drive of some description.

Booky Goodness [27 Oct 2005|12:53pm]
[ mood | excited ]
[ music | What ever is on my work playlist ]

I have just purchased a copy of the next novel by George RR Martin. It is mine! All mine!
The problem is that I am at work and it would not look good if I was to just stop working and start reading.
Can I wait? Will he kill off more of our favourite characters? and does the duck make it?
All these questions and more will be answered in a very short time.
